“Volunteers of America” and many caring individuals, Ocala’s Historic Ritz Inn will become a transitional home for Veterans in 2011.

Volunteers of America is a nonprofit organization in business since 1896, which offers similar programs for veterans who are temporarily without housing around the country.

Wendy Whitescarver, resource development manager for Volunteers of America Florida, along with Peggy Hearlson of the American Legion-Belleview, are heading up the renovation of the 86 year-old Ritz Inn-Ocala.  Wendy and Peggy are in the process of soliciting the community’s help to recruit volunteers for this wonderful  project.

Information of the restoration, which is expected to be completed this year, was available for guests attending Highland Memorial Day.  Additionally, Volunteers of America showcased their Veterans “MOBILE SERVICE CENTER” at the event.  The “Mobile Service Center” is a 40 foot vehicle; 13 feet high and 8 feet in width which serves as a self-contained medical and dental facility.  For more info or to volunteer, call Wendy @ 727.637.7730.
